Description

The surge suppressors model PD protect single-phase and three-phase motors and equipment against voltage spikes (transient over-voltages) and electrical discharges in lines caused by:

  • Lightning
  • Disconnection of large inductive loads.
  • Cyclic starts of motors.

These voltage spikes are often in the order of thousands of volts and occur only for a fraction of a second. However, they are sufficient to damage the insulation of motors or the electronic equipment connected to the line.

When a over-voltage occurs, the suppressor absorbs it to prevent voltages from rising to harmful levels. If the discharge exceeds the capacity of the suppressor, it can damage it. The PD series suppressors have operation indicators that indicate the protector is in good condition and providing protection. If any indicator is off, it means that the line received a discharge greater than the protector’s capacity and damaged it, leaving that line unprotected. To increase the capacity of the suppressor, multiple suppressors can be connected in parallel.

The PD series surge protectors have integrated thermal protection that opens in case of overheating, helping to minimize the risk of fire in the protector. All components are sealed in epoxy to protect them from moisture, dust, or corrosion.
